                                                              Note
Units of measurement are added or subtracted in the same way as we add or subtract whole or
                 decimal numbers.

              OPERATIONS ON METRIC MEASURES

We can perform fundamental operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

(+, –, ×, ÷) on metric measures of the same units. To do this, first convert given metric
measures into the same units before performing any operation on them.

              example 1: Add the following.

                    (a) 24 m 24 cm and 7 m 12 mm

                    (b) 3 kg 7 hg 5 dag 3 g 4 dg 5 cg 2 mg and 5 kg 7 hg 2 dag 1 dg 4 cg 4 mg

                    (c) 15 L 725 mL and 11 L 850 mL

teacher’s Inform the children that the units of measurement we generally used are m, cm, km, g, kg, L, kL. Other units
tip of measurements such as hecto, deca and deci are generally not used in real life.
