example 4: Subtract 18 years 9 months from 23 years. years Months
Solution: We have, 23 years = 23 years 00 months 22 12
= 22 years 12 months – 23 00
18
09
and 18 years 9 months = 18 years 09 months 4 03
Required difference = 4 years 3 months
example 5: The running time of a Vande Bharat train from New Delhi to Varanasi is 8 hours.
If the train departs from New Delhi station at 6:15 a.m., at what time will it reach Varanasi?
Solution: The train will reach Varanasi 8 hours later than 6:15 a.m.
So, we add 8 hours to 6:15 a.m.
6:15 a.m. = 06 hours 15 minutes
8 hours = + 08 hours 00 minutes
= 14 hours 15 minutes
14 hours 15 minutes = 2:15 p.m.
Thus, the train will reach Varanasi at 2:15 p.m.

example 6: Mayank’s school starts at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 2:15 p.m.
Find the working hours of the school. school
Solution: Closing time of the school = 2:15 p.m.
= 1415 hours
Opening time of the school = 7:30 a.m. = 0730 hours h min
13
75
Working hours of the school = 1415 hours – 0730 hours 14 15
= 0645 hours – 7 30
= 6 hours 45 minutes 6 45
Thus, the working hours of the school is 6 hours 45 minutes.

next day. Find the duration of the journey. h min
Solution: Departure time of the train = 9:50 p.m. = 2150 hours 23 60
Time interval from 9:50 p.m. to 12 midnight 24 00
= 2400 hours – 2150 hours – 21 50
2
10
= 0210 hours
= 2 hours 10 minutes
