                1. Solve the following:
                    (a) `124.67 + `28.66 (b) `587.79 – `243.45

                    (c) `288.88 × 40 (d) `1799.91 ÷ 9

                2. During a visit to Sikkim, Mr Rohan spent `5800 on hotel stay, `3200 on transport and
`2850 on food. What was the total amount spent by Mr Rohan on the trip, if the
hotel manager gave him a discount of `400 on the hotel stay?

              unitary method

Swastik wants to buy a pack of pencils. Brand A offers a pack
of 10 pencils for `45 and brand B offers a pack of 8 pencils
for `40. Which pack should Swastik buy to get a better deal,

if the quality offered by both brands is the same?
To decide which is the better deal, we need to find the price Brand A Brand B
of one pencil of each pack.
The method of finding the value of one article, when the value Note

of some articles is given, is called the unitary method. Finding the cost of 1 item
If the price of 1 article (item) is given, then the price of more (article) of a kind is called
than one article (item) can be found by multiplying the price of finding the unit price.
1 article (item) and the number of articles for which it is to be found. Thus, to get more
              we multiply.

example 1: The cost of 1 notebook is `30. How much will 6 notebooks cost?

Solution: The cost of 1 notebook = `30
                            Therefore, the cost of 6 notebooks = (30 × 6) = `180

                  Cost of 1 notebook = `30 Cost of 6 notebooks = (6 × `30) = `180

If the price of any number of articles is given, the price of one article can be found by
dividing the total price of the articles by the number of articles. Thus, to get less we divide.
example 2: If the cost of 12 pencils is `84, find the cost of 1 pencil.
Solution: The cost of 12 pencils = `84
84 If the unit price is known,
                            ∴ The cost of 1 pencil = (84 ÷ 12) = ` = `7 we can find the price of
12 many items of same kind.
Therefore, the cost of 1 pencil will be `7.

Swastik went to the shopkeeper to buy 10 candles. But the cost of pack of 4 candles is
`32. How will we find the cost of required number of articles when the cost of some
              articles is given?
