example 4: Delhi Jal Board supplied 978795 litres of water in a colony which had 375
families. How much water did each family get if each family got same amount of water and
how much water was left?

Properties of division

1. When a number is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.
example: (a) 36 ÷ 36 = 1 (b) 239 ÷ 239 = 1

2. When a number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.
example: (a) 37 ÷ 1 = 37 (b) 325 ÷ 1 = 325
3. When 0 is divided by a non-zero number, the quotient is zero.
example: (a) 0 ÷ 44 = 0 (b) 0 ÷ 365 = 0

4. Division by 0 is meaningless.
