converting an improper Fraction to a Mixed Fraction

To convert an improper fraction to a mixed fraction, follow these steps:
Step 1: Divide the numerator by the denominator of the fraction.

Step 2: The quotient obtained in step 1 will become the whole number, the remainder will
become the the numerator and the denominator will remain same.
example 1: Convert the following improper fractions to mixed fraction.

                    (a) 12 (b) 38 (c) 34
                         5 7 11
Solution: (a) Divide the numerator 12 by the denominator 5.
                                     2
                                 5 12 Here, quotient = 2 and remainder = 2
                                    10
                                      2
Therefore, the required mixed fraction = 2 2
                                                                                   5
                            (b) Divide the numerator 38 by the denominator 7.
                                     5
                                 7 38 Here, quotient = 5 and remainder = 3
                                    35
                                      3
Therefore, the required mixed fraction = 5 3
                                                                                   7
                            (c) Divide the numerator 34 by the denominator 11.

                                       3
                                 11 34 Here, quotient = 3 and remainder = 1
                                      33
                                       1
Therefore, the required mixed fraction = 3 1
                                                                                   11

converting a Mixed Fraction to an improper Fraction

To convert a mixed fraction to an improper fraction, follow these steps:
Step 1: Multiply the whole number by the denominator.
