              MultiPlication oF Fractions

Multiplication of a Fraction by a whole number

To multiply a fraction by a whole number or a whole number by a fraction, multiply the
numerator of the fraction by the whole number and keep the denominator same.

              example 1: Multiply the following:
                                                                           4
                                                 3
                        1
                    (a) × 3 (b) × 7 (c) 2 × 14
                        4 5 7
                                                                                                      1
              Solution: (a) 1 × 3 = 1 × 3 = 3 (b) 3 × 7 = 3 × 7 = 21 = 4

                            (c) 2 × 14 = × 14 = = 18 × 2 = 36
