3. The number of members in 25 families of a colony is:
2, 6, 2, 4, 2, 1, 3, 3, 1, 6, 2, 3, 4, 3, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 2, 4, 1, 2, 2
Represent the above data in the form of a frequency distribution table using tally marks and answer
the following questions:
(a) What is the smallest family size?
(b) How many families are of the smallest size?
(c) What is the most common family size?
4. The result of a Mathematics test is as follows:

Make a frequency table for the above data and answer the following questions:
(a) What is the maximum marks obtained?
(b) How many students scored less than 75 marks?

Pictorial Representation of Data
In the previous section, we learned about data, and how to collect and organise data in the tabular
form. To interpret the details and characteristics of numerical data, pictures are quite useful. The
study of numerical data through pictures and figures is known as a pictorial representation or
graphical representation of data.
We can represent data in several ways. But in this chapter, we will recall and extend the
interpretation as well as the drawing of a pictograph and a bar graph.
Pictographs
When numerical data is represented through pictures or symbols of objects, such representation
is called a pictograph.
In the pictograph, each picture or symbol of objects represents a certain number, which is called
a key. A pictograph is one visual and suggestive way to represent data with writing any number.
