Example 8: The table given below shows the number of students in classes VI to X in a school.
Class VI VII VIII IX X
Number of students 280 240 320 200 160
Represent the above data using a bar graph.
Solution: First, draw a horizontal line and a vertical line. On the horizontal line, write the classes
VI, VII, VIII, IX and X. Choose a suitable scale along the vertical line, say 1 unit length = 80 students.
Write the frequencies representing the number of students as per the chosen scale. Draw vertical
bars for the respective classes, showing the number of students in each class as high as their
frequencies.
Example 9: The table given below shows the lengths of longest rivers on each continent. Represent
the information through a bar graph with vertical or horizontal bars.
