Using the bar graph, answer the following questions:
                           (a) Name the rivers longer than 5000 km.
                           (b) Which river is approximately 4000 km long?
                           (c) What is the difference between the lengths of the longest and the shortest rivers?

Solution: We draw a horizontal bar graph for the given information. For this, we proceed as follows:
Step 1: Draw two mutually perpendicular lines, one horizontal and the other vertical.
Step 2: On the vertical line, mark the names of the rivers and the lengths of the rivers
                                   on the horizontal line.

Step 3: Choose a suitable scale. On the horizontal axis, take 1 unit length = 1000 km, and
                                    1 unit length = 100 km.

Step 4: Calculate the length of the bars for each river accordingly:

River Length Approximate Length Length of Bars

                                                                                                          10

                                                                                                          10

                                                                                                          10

                                                                                                          10

                                                                                                          10

                     Amazon 6,300 km 6,300 km 6,300 ÷ 1000 = 6 + 3 units
                                                                                                          10
Step 5: As per the length calculated, draw bars of equal width, keeping equal gaps
                                   between consecutive bars.
