            From the bar graph drawn:

                       (a) Nile, Yangtze and Amazon are longer than 5000 km.
                        (b) Missouri river is approximately 4000 km long.

                        (c) The approximate length of the longest river = 6700 km

The approximate length of the shortest river = 2500 km
\ The difference between the lengths of the longest and the shortest rivers

                             = 6700 km – 2500 km = 4200 km approximately.

            Double Bar Graph

It is used to relate two similar types of quantities. It contains two bars to represent the required
quantities. The two bars representing two sets, are from different categories and are placed next

to each other so that comparisons between two groups are easy. Most importantly, the two sets of
bars are coloured differently so that the comparison becomes easy.

Example 10: Here is a double bar graph that shows the marks obtained by Nikita and Meera in 4
subjects studied at Model High School.

                       (a) In which subjects did Nikita perform better than Meera?

                        (b) How many more marks did Meera get than Nikita in Science?

Solution: (a) In the bar graph, Nikita’s bar is taller than the Meera’s bar in the subjects Maths
and Social Science. It indicates that Nikita performed better than Meera in those
                            particular subjects.

                        (b) From the given bar graph,

Marks scored by Nikita in Science = 38
Marks scored by Meera in Science = 60

Therefore, Meera scored 60 – 38 = 22 marks more than Nikita in Science.
