Objective: To draw the figures having same area but different perimeters.
Materials required: Paper, pen, pencil, graph paper, etc.

                Procedure:
                   • Students will be encouraged to think of possible dimensions of rectangles whose area is
given, say 24 sq. cm. All possibilities will be discussed and drawn.
                   • They will be given graph paper and instructed to draw all rectangles that have an area
                   of 24 sq. cm.

                   • Next, they will compute the perimeter of each of these rectangles. Out of these they
should identify which rectangle has the least perimeter.

                   • Further they will be asked to draw any shape other than a rectangle or square having
                   the same area.

Variation: This activity can also be performed by drawing figures with a fixed perimeter
                but different areas.
