                Wavy Wave

This is a diagram of a wave in the form of a pair of semicircles.
Can you draw it with a ruler and compass?
Let us take AB as the central line of a certain length, say 8 cm
                and proceed as follows:

Step 1: Start with the central line AB, which is 8 cm in length.
                                                  A 8 cm B
Step 2: Using a ruler, take point C on AB such that AC = 8 ÷ 2 = 4 cm. C is the midpoint of AB.

Further, take points D on AC and E on CB such that AD = 2 cm and CE = 2 cm. D is the midpoint of
AC and E is the midpoint of CB.

                                                    A D C E B
Step 3: With the centre at D and radius 2 cm, draw a semicircle above the line AB.

                                                                             E B
                                                    A D C
Step 4: With the centre at E and radius 2 cm, draw another semicircle below the line AB.

                                                                             E B
                                                    A D C

Step 5: Draw vertical lines in the semicircles above and below the line AB. Thus, the wavy wave
                is ready.

                                                                            E B
                                                  A D C

                                                                  233 Playing with Constructions
