1. Classify the following objects into symmetrical and asymmetrical:
(a) (b) (c) (d) (e)
2. Draw the line(s) of symmetry (if any) in each of the following figures:
(a) (b) (c) (d) (e)
3. Write the letter(s) of the word ‘MatHeMatICS’ that have no line of symmetry.
4. Draw the other half in the following figures if the dotted line is the line of symmetry.
(a) (b) (c) (d)
5. Find the number of lines of symmetry in the figure given below. Next, draw three circles together
so that the complete figure has 3 lines of symmetry.
6. Complete the figure so that line l becomes the line of symmetry of the whole figure given below:
l
7. Can you draw a quadrilateral that has:
(a) exactly one line of symmetry? (b) exactly two lines of symmetry?
(c) no lines of symmetry?
Reflection Symmetry
Have you ever compared any object with its image formed in a plane mirror? Both look alike.
Suppose we take an arrow (object) in front of the mirror. Then we see its reflection; a reversed
arrow (image) in the mirror.
(Object) (Image)
The reflection is of the same shape and size and is formed at an equal distance from the mirror.
There is no change in the length; only the left side appears right and vice versa.
