            Example 10: Subtract the following:

                       (a) 2 from –10 (b) –3 from –4 (c) –369 from –428 (d) –3752 from 6131
            Solution: (a) –10 – 2 = –12 (b) –4 – (–3) = –4 + 3 = –1
                        (c) –428 – (–369) = –428 + 369 = –59 (d) 6131 – (–3752) = 6131 + 3752 = 9883

Example 11: Find the value of:
                       (a) –23 – (–27) (b) 50 – (–48 ) – (–2) – 110

                        (c) 12 + (–87) – (–98) + 123 – 235 – (–15) (d) – 12 + (–25 ) + [23 – 56 + (–456)]
            Solution: (a) – 23 – (– 27) = –23 + (27) = 4
                        (b) 50 – (–48 ) – (–2) – 110 = 50 + (48) + (2) – 110 = 100 – 110 = –10

                        (c) 12 + (–87) – (–98) + 123 – 235 – (–15) = 12 – 87 + 98 + 123 – 235 + 15 = –74
                       (d) –12 + (–25) + [23 – 56 + (–456)] = –12 – 25 + [23 – 56 – 456] = –12 – 25 + (–489) = –526

Example 12: The sum of two integers is 47. If one of the integers is –24, find the other.
Solution: Given, the sum of two integers = 47 and one of the integers = –24
            So, the other integer = Sum of the two integers – given integer = 47 – (–24) = 47 + (24) = 71

Hence, the other integer is 71.
            Properties of Subtraction

             (a) Closure Property: Subtraction of any two integers is an integer. For example, 5 and 7 are two
                 integers, then 5 – 7 = – 2 is also an integer.

             (b) Commutative Property: For any two integers, commutativity on subtraction does not hold
                 true. For example,

                                      5 – 7 = – 2 but 7 – 5 = 2 ⇒ 5 – 7 ≠ 7 – 5
              (c) Property of Identity element ‘0’: Like addition, subtracting 0 from an integer does not affect
                 the number. For example,
                   (i) 5 – 0 = 5 (ii) –5 – 0 = –5

                    Life Skills
Radhika had `89,000 in her savings account at the beginning of June month. To file her
income tax return, she updated her passbook in the month of July. Complete the table by filling in the balance
               after each transaction.
