            Numbers on the Number Line

We are familiar with number lines. Let us see if we can place some numbers in their appropriate
            positions on the number line.

                   10000 20000 30000 40000 50000 60000 70000 80000 90000 100000
            Where are the numbers: 21800, 75240, 31500, 63600, 99500, 53700 and 84000 on the above number
            line provided?
We can assume the approximate positions of these numbers as follows:

                              21800 31500 53700 63600 75240 84000 99500
                   10000 20000 30000 40000 50000 60000 70000 80000 90000 100000
Example 1: Identify the numbers marked on the given number line and label the remaining
positions. Also, put a circle around the smallest number and a box around the largest number in
            the sequence.

                                                9996 9997

Solution: We label the positions with the numbers as shown below and put a circle around the
smallest number and a box around the largest number in the sequence.

                    9993 9994 9995 9996 9997 9998 9999 10000 10001 10002

                     Quick Check
                  1. Identify the numbers marked on the number lines given below, and label the remaining positions.

                       15077 15078 15083

                                                   86,705 87,705
                  2. Mark the positions of the following numbers on the given number lines.
                    (a) 5180, 5754, 5500, 5600, 5950, 5890, 5050, 5030, 5300 and 5410.

                           5000 5100 5700
                    (b) 12,180, 12,240, 12,500, 12,650, 12,310, 12,800, 12,050, 12,400 and 12,590.

                          12,000 12,100 12,300 12,900
