              4. Taking today as zero on the number line, if the day before yesterday was 14th September,
what is the date 4 days after tomorrow?

              5. Evaluate the following:
                  (a) 6.21 × 0.50 (b) 32.25 ÷ 15
                        −3 1 −16
              6. If x = , y = and z = , then find the value of (x + y) × z.

              7. A vegetable vendor has 300 kg of tomatoes in stock, but 45 kg have gone bad. How many
kilograms of tomatoes are spoiled? Also, find the quantity of tomatoes in good condition.
Find the fraction of spoiled tomatoes and fresh tomatoes out of the total given tomatoes.

              8. Case Study based Questions
Ravi is a college student living in a shared apartment. His primary expenses include rent,
groceries, and transport. His rent is fixed, but he uses an algebraic expression to mange the
fluctuating costs of groceries and transportation each month.
Ravi’s rent is `5,000 per month. His grocery expenses are typically double his transport
expenses. His total monthly expenses are given by the expression 5000 + 2x + x, where x is
transport cost and 2x is the grocery cost.
Based on this scenario answer the following questions.
                 (a) Ravi spent `3000 on transport in August. Calculate his total expenses for August.

                  (b) Ravi plans to spend no more than `17000 in September. If his rent remains the same, write
an equation for his total expenses and solve it to find maximum amount he can spend on
                      transport.
                                                                          1
                  (c) If Ravi decides to increase his grocery budget by th of the September, calculate the new
                                                                          4
total for the month, assuming his transport cost remain the same as of September.
