                                 Learning by Doing





                Objective: To reinforce the concept of addition, subtraction, multiplication and
                division of integers.
                Materials Required: Two dice, some blank chits, a bowl and four operation slips
                (+, –, × and ÷ s)

                Procedure:
                   • Perform the activity in groups.

                   •  Take two dice and make them integer dice by pasting integer chits (having integers –6 to
                   6) on all their faces.








                   •  Also, make four operations slips (+, –, × and ÷), shuffle them and put them in a bowl.












                   •  Work in groups of 5 students.

                   •  Any student of the group will throw the integer dice twice and write the integers that
                   come on the top face of the dice on the board. Say (–3) and 4.

                   •  The rest of the four students in the group will choose an operation slip from the bowl
                   one by one and perform the operation mentioned on it on those numbers. For example:


                                                        Integers: (–3) and 4
                            Students            Operation on Chosen Slip

                            Student 2                          +                           (–3) + 4  = 1
                            Student 3                          –                          (–3) – 4  = –7

                            Student 4                          ×                          (–3) × 4  = –12
                            Student 5                          ÷                                    −3
                                                                                          (–3) ÷ 4 =
                                                                                                     4

                   •  Now, change the turn and repeat the activity till each student throws the dice and each
                   student performs at least one operation on chosen integers.
