Example 18: Following data represents the marks of a student in an examination in five subjects.
Represent the data by a horizontal bar chart.
Subjects English Hindi Physics Chemistry Mathematics
Marks 70 60 75 80 85
Solution: First, draw two mutually perpendicular lines namely, x-axis and y-axis. On the horizontal
line (x-axis), write the marks obtained in respective subjects, and on vertical line (y-axis), write
their respective subjects and draw horizontal bars at equal distance.
Let us consider scale: 1 unit length = 10 marks

Example 19: The following data represents the number of cars sold from a showroom in last six
years. Represent the data by a vertical bar graph.
Years 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024
No. of cars sold 110 120 100 90 130 150
Solution: First, draw two mutually perpendicular lines namely, x-axis and y-axis. On the horizontal
line (x-axis), write the years of respective bars at equal distance and on vertical line (y-axis), write
the number of cars sold in their respective years which represents the height of the bars. Let us
consider scale:
