The place value chart for a decimal number is as follows.

Hundreds Tens Ones Decimal Tenths Hundredths Thousandths

In the above place value chart the digit 8 in the hundreds place shows 8 × 100 = 800
            The digit 6 in the tens place shows 6 × 10 = 60
            The digit 3 in the ones place shows 3 × 1 = 3

                                                         1 2
            The digit 2 in the tenths place shows 2 × = = 0.2 FACTS

1 7 we do in place value system.
            The digit 7 in the thousandths place shows 7 × = = 0.007
                                                               1000 1000

Therefore, the number represented in the place value chart is 863.267.
It is read as ‘Eight hundred sixty-three point two six and seven’.
Example 10: Write the following decimal numbers in words. Also, Express them in their
            expanded form.
                       (a) 45.71 (b) 121.108 (c) 5414.047

            Solution: (a) 45.71 = Forty-five point seven one
                                                               7 1
                            Expanded form: 45.71 =  40 5++        +

                            Expanded form: 121.108 = 100 20 1+ + + +
                                                                       10 1000
                        (c) 5414.047 = Five thousand four hundred fourteen point zero four seven
                                                                                 4 7

                                                                                100 1000
            Like and Unlike Decimals

            Like Decimals
Decimals that have the same number of digits after the decimal point are called like decimals.
            For example: 3.2, 6.9, 4.3, 5.5; 5.31, 27.89, 96.41, 45.17 are sets of like decimals.

            Unlike Decimals
Decimals that have the different number of digits after the decimal point are called unlike decimals.

For example: 12.03, 5.2, and 8.362 have different digits after the decimal point, so they are
            considered as unlike decimals.
To convert the unlike decimals into like decimals, first identify Extra zeros put at the end
the decimal number having the maximum number of decimal Note: of a decimal number do
places. Then put zeros at the right side of the decimal part of not change its value. For
            the remaining decimal numbers. example: 2.6 = 2.60 = 2.600
