Example 19: Harshit gave his car for service at a service station, and he was charged as follows:

                       (a) 3.5 litres of engine oil @ `320 per litre and GST@18%.
                        (b) `2,150 for all other parts and GST @ 12%.

                        (c) `2,580 as labour charges and service tax @18%.

                       (d) 3% cess on service tax.
            Find the total bill amount.

            Solution: (a) Cost of 3.5 litres of engine oil @ `320 per litre = 3.5 × `320 = `1120
                                                                   18
                            GST on engine oil = 18% of `1120 = × `1120 = `201.60
                                                                  100
                                                                    12
                        (b) GST on other parts = 12% of `2150 = × `2150 = `258
                                                                   100
                                                                                18
                        (c) Service tax on labour charges = 18% of `2580 = × `2580 = `464.40
                                                                               100
                                                                         3
                       (d) 3% cess on service tax = 3% of `464.40 = × `464.10 ≈ `13.93
                                                                        100
            Thus, the total bill amount = (`1120 + `201.60) + (`2150 + `258) + (`2580 + `464.40) + `13.93 = `6787.93
Example 20: The marked price of a printer is `9,500. The shopkeeper offers a discount of 8% on
cash payments. If Vinay paid `9788.80 including GST, find the rate of GST imposed on the printer.

            Solution: MP = `9500, and discount = 8%
                                                          −
                                                      100 8 92
                                                SP =          × `9500 =      × 9500 = `8740
                                                       100 100
Now, the total bill amount including GST = `9788.80

            So, GST = `9788.80 – `8740 = `1048.80
                                                                        .
                                                      GST 1048 80
            Hence, the rate of GST = × 100 = × 100 = 12%
                                                       SP 8740
Example 21: The list price of a cooler is `12508. The rate of GST is 18%. The customer requests
the shopkeeper to reduce the price of the cooler (i.e., allow discount in the price of the cooler) is
such an extent that the price remains `12508, including the GST. Find the reductions needed in
            the price of the cooler.
Solution: List price of the cooler = `12508

Let the reduced price of the cooler be `x
                       Selling price of the cooler = `x + 18% GST on `x

                                                              18
            ⇒ `12508 = `x + `    100 × x   
                                                      118x
            ⇒ `12508 =
                                                      100
                                                       12508 × 100
            ⇒ x = ` = `10,600
                                                           118
So, reduction needed in the price of the cooler = `(12508 – 10600) = `1908
