6. Plot the following points in a Cartesian plane.
(a) A(3, 5) (b) B(–3, –3) (c) C(5, –2) (d) D(–1, 4)
(e) E(0, 5)
7. Plot the following points in a Cartesian plane. (1, 2), (2, 4), (4, 8) and (–1, –2)
(i) Do all the points lie on a straight line?
(ii) Which point is not in the same quadrant as others?
8. Plot a rectangle which lies in first quadrant, has origin as one vertex, is 5 units long along x-axis
and 3 units long along y-axis. Give the coordinates of its vertices.
Some Applications
In everyday life, you must have noticed that the more you buy any item, the more you have to pay.
For example, if you use more electricity in any month, then you have to pay more as an electricity
bill in that the month. Here amount of electricity bill depends on the quantity of electricity used.
Similarly, if the radius of any circle is more then area will be the more, here the area of a circle
depends on the radius of circle. We say that the quantity of electricity used and the radius of the
circle are independent variables and the amount of electricity bill and area of circle are dependent
variables. The relation between independent and dependent variables can be shown by a graph.
