Example 12: (Multiple of Numbers)
Draw a graph to represent the multiples of 3 by taking numbers on x-axis and its multiples on
y-axis. From the graph, find the multiple of 3 when number is 4.
Solution: Let the numbers be 0, 1, 3, 5, then the multiples of 3 will be as follows:
Number (x) Multiple (3x) Y Scale: On x-axis 1 unit = 1
15 On y-axis 1 unit = 3
0 0
1 3 12
3 9 9

5 15

From the graph we find that the multiple of 3
for number 4 is 12. Numbers
Line Graph
A line graph displays data that changes continuously over periods of time. The data points in this
graph are joined by lines to show changes that happened consistently throughout time.
Example 13: (Time and Temperature)
When Ratnesh fell sick, his doctor maintained a record of his body temperature, taken every four
hours as follows:
Time 6 a.m. 10 a.m. 2 p.m. 6 p.m. 10 p.m.
Temperature ( in °C) 37 40 38 36 35
Draw a graph to represent the above data.
Solution: Y Scale:On x-axis, 1 unit = 4 h
On y-axis, 1 unit = 2° C

Here, we observe that, the graph is not linear, but a line graph.
