Solution: (a) Scale taken for time axis is, 1 division as unit = 1 hour

                        (b) Travelling starts at 8 a.m. and ends at mid time between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, i.e.,
                            11.30 a.m.
                                                             1
\ Time spent on travelling = 3 hours.
                                                             2
                        (c) On the y-axis, graph starts at 0 km and goes till 22 km.

\ The distance of place of merchant from the town = 22 km.
                       (d) From 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., the graph is parallel to x-axis i.e., no distance is covered.
Hence, the person stops on his way from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.
                        (e) Q Distance covered in 1st hour (8 a.m. to 9 a.m.) = 10 km

                              Distance covered in 2nd hour (9 a.m. to 10 a.m.) = (16 – 10) km = 6 km
                              Distance covered between 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. = (19 – 16) km = 3 km
                                                          1
                              Distance covered in next hour = (22 – 19) km = 3 km
                                                          2
                            \ He rode fastest during 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

              1. Draw the graph for the following table of values, with suitable scales on the axes.

                  Number of pens bought 1 2 3 4 5
                  Cost (in `) 4 8 12 16 20
                 Using the graph, find
                (a) the cost of 6 pens (b) how many pens will cost `32.

              2. Draw the graph between deposit and interest earned. Does the graph pass through the origin?
                  Deposit (in `) 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000

                  Simple Interest (in `) 80 160 240 320 400
                 From the graph drawn, find:
                (a) the interest on `2500 for a year.
                 (b) the money that should be deposited to get an interest of `280 per year.
                 (c) the money that should be deposited to get an interest of `560 per year.

              3. Perimeters (P) of squares with sides (s) are given below. Draw the graph for this data by taking
                 suitable scale on the axes.

                  s (in cm) 4 5 6 7
              4. A taxi driver drove a taxi for 6 hours. Plot a speed-distance graph for the following data and
answer the given questions using the graph.

                     Speed (in km/h) 20 25 30 40 50
                     Distance (in km) 120 150 180 240 300
                 (a) Find the distance covered if he is driving at a speed of 45 km/h.
                 (b) Find the speed of the taxi if he travels a distance of 450 km.
