Learning by Doing
Objective: Plotting points on a Cartesian plane to obtain a shape.
Materials Required: Chart paper, graph paper, geometry box, colour
pen, etc.
Procedure:
• Perform this activity with your classmates.
• Take a chart paper and paste a graph paper on it.
• Draw two perpendicular lines X′OX and YOY′ intersecting at point O.
• Plot each set of points in order from START to STOP. Connect the points with straight
lines.
Set I: START → (8, 4), (10, 10), (4, 8), (8, 4) ← STOP
Set II: START → (8, 4), (4, –2), (0, –4), (–4, 0), (–2, 4), (4, 8) ← STOP
Set III: START → (0, –4), (–4, –6), (–6, –4), (–4, 0) ← STOP
Set IV: START → (–6, –4), (–8, –6), (–10, –10), (–6, –8), (–4, –6) ← STOP
Set V: START → (–4, 0), (–6, 2), (–10, –2), (–10, –6), (–6, –4) ← STOP
Set VI: START → (0, –4), (2, –6), (–2, –10), (–6, –10), (–4, –6) ← STOP
Set VII: START → (0, 2), (2, 0), (0, –2), (–2, 0), (0, 2) ← STOP
Set VIII: START → (4, 6), (6, 4), (4, 2), (2, 4), (4, 6) ← STOP
• Colour different sections to make it attractive. Which mysterious picture do you get?
