               • For any vehicle to be road-legal in India, it must be registered and have a license plate prominently
displayed as per the RTO (Regional Transport Office) rules. Each car gets a unique registration number sequence,
which starts with a code suggesting the state in which it has been registered. For example, for all vehicles
registered in Delhi, the registration number will start with DL. Similarly, the registration number will start with
KL for all vehicles registered in Kerala. Various components of a number plate are as follows:
                               International registration code for India
RTO code in which the vehicle registered

                                                                             One or Two letters
                                                                             showing the current series
                                                                             of registration numbers.
                                                          Unique Alphanumeric code
State or union territory in which the vehicle is registered
               • State Code: The first two letters on the number plate indicate the state or union territory where the vehicle
is registered—for instance, “MH” for Maharashtra and “DL” for Delhi.
               • RTO Code: The next two digits represent the regional transport office (RTO) or the district within the state
where the vehicle is registered (e.g., “01” for a specific RTO in the state).
               • Unique Identifier: After the state code and the RTO, there will be a unique alphanumeric code that uniquely
identify the vehicle. It may be one or two letters followed by one to four digits. For example, “AB 1234”.

Another significant element of the number plate is the oval symbol, displaying ‘IND,’ which signifies that the vehicle
has been registered in India. In High Security Registration Plates, the oval logo also includes a chromium hologram
on the top that resembles a ‘Chakra.’
Now, you can easily understand the meaning of each code of registration number given in Get ready: DL 09 U
9111, here DL stands for Delhi, 09 stands for Janakpuri, South West Delhi, and U 9111 is car unique identification
               number.
               • There are different coloured vehicle number plates also. Explore through the internet, discuss with your teacher,
and parents and write what each colour of the number plate represents.
               • Also, find the format for car number plates of the President, state governor, military officers, diplomats, and
                state government employees.

            Number Patterns

There are no set of rules to solve such patterns, every pattern may require different logic to find
the next or missing number or term of the patterns.

            Example 7: Find the next three numbers in the following pattern: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, …, …, ….

Solution: In the given pattern, we see that each number is a prime number. So, the next three
numbers in the given number pattern are 13, 17 and 19.
            Example 8: Find the next number in the pattern: 6, 11, 17, 24, 32, 41, … .

Solution: In the given pattern, we see that the pattern is as follows:

                                                     +5 +6 +7 +8 +9
                                                   6 11 17 24 32 41

So, the next number in the given number pattern will be 41 + 10 = 51.
