• Pulley: Imagine raising a flag on a flagpole. The
pulley at the top helps lifts the flag easily by
pulling a rope down, instead of lifting the flag
straight up.
• Door Knob (Wheel and Axle): A door knob
uses a wheel and axle. When you turn the
knob (wheel), the axle inside moves and
unlocks the door.

Activity Create a Plier Using the Block-Based Kit
Definition of a Plier
A plier is a special tool that helps us hold, bend, or cut things. It has two
handles and two jaws that open and close. When we squeeze the handles,
the jaws come together to grip or move objects.
Concept of a Plier
• How it works: A plier works like a pair of scissors, but instead of cutting,
it grips things tightly. The two handles are connected by a pivot point,
which allows the jaws to open and close. When you squeeze the handles
together, the jaws move closer, making it easier to hold and blend
something.
• Where we use it: We use pliers in many places, like at home, in workshops
or even in the garden. They can help us pick up small items, twist wires,
or even pull-out nails.
• Why it is useful: Pliers are helpful because they give us a strong grip
on things. This makes it easier to do tasks that are too hard to do with
just our hands.
