In the pulley activity, when you pull one side of the rope, the pulley helps
to lift an object up. The pulley makes it easier to lift heavy things. You will

notice that the object goes up as you pull the rope down.

Concepts

• How a Pulley Works: The concept of pulley can be understood by using

the rope and wheel to lift up the heavy object. It makes lifting objects

easier by changing the direction of the force. When the rope is pulled
down the objects get lifted up.

• Effort and Lifting: By using a pulley, it’s easier to lift heavy objects

because the pulley reduces the efforts needed to lift something.

Observations

In the pulley activity, students will see how pulling the rope down lifts the
object up. They will observe that it feels easier to lift something heavy with

a pulley than by using just their hands. This helps students understand
how pulleys make hard jobs easier and why pulleys are used in many

real-world situations, like in cranes or flagpoles.
