Making a Circuit of Torch Light

The components of a Circuit are LEDs, Switch, and Resistor.

LED (Light Emitting Diode)

• LEDs are small electronic device that emit light
when an electric current passes through them.

• LEDs have two leads (terminal): the longer lead is
the positive (anode) and the shorter lead is the negative (cathode).

• LED comes in various colors.

Switch

• A switch is a simple device that is used to either
break the electric circuit or to complete it.

• Mechanical switches: These require manual
contact with the switch for operation and are

classified into various types depending upon the
poles.

Resistor

• A resistor is an electrical component that limits
the flow of current in a circuit.

• It is used to control the amount of current that

flows through an LED to prevent it from burning out.
• Resistors have a resistance value measured in ohms (Ω) that determines

how much current they allow to pass through them.
