How Does Teachable Machine Work?
Teachable Machine allows you to train AI using three types of input:
Images
Sounds
Poses (such as body or hand movements)
To use it for hand gesture recognition, you simply upload or capture images of different hand
gestures using the webcam. For example, to train the model to recognise gestures like a thumb-up,
a wave, or a peace sign.
Once you have collected enough images for each gesture, you can click “Train Model,” and the
Teachable Machine will create an AI model that can recognise the gestures. After training, you can
use the model to recognise hand gestures in real time. The tool will give you feedback by showing the
label (name) of the gesture it recognises, such as “thumb-up” or “peace sign.”
Why Teachable Machine is Useful for Learning AI
Google Teachable Machine is a great tool because it simplifies the process of creating AI models.
Traditionally, training AI requires a lot of coding and advanced knowledge, but Teachable Machine
removes this barrier. Students can understand how AI learns and works without needing to
understand complex algorithms.
Moreover, Teachable Machine also helps introduce key concepts of machine learning, such as data
collection, training, and real-time recognition. It provides a hands-on experience, which helps
students understand how AI interacts with the real world.
