Working with Potentiometers

A potentiometer has a knob that controls the flow of electricity in a circuit. By turning the knob,
resistance can be changed. It has three terminals: input, output, and adjustment.

                 Overview

In this activity, students will learn how to control the brightness of an LED using a potentiometer. By
adjusting the potentiometer’s knob, they will observe how changing the resistance affects the LED’s
brightness. This hands-on activity helps students understand the relationship between resistance
and light intensity in an electronic circuit.

                 Learning Objective

Identify and describe the function of a potentiometer in a circuit.

Understand the relationship between resistance and LED brightness.
Hands-on experience in building and adjusting a simple electronic circuit.
