Application
Port Robotic Cranes (e.g., Automated Shipyard
Cranes): These robotic cranes are used at large
ports to load and unload heavy containers from
ships. They use advanced robotic systems and
sensors to move huge cargo efficiently without
much human intervention. These cranes can
work continuously, handling tons of material and
ensuring smooth operations in busy shipping yards.
Line Sensor Integration and Control Logic
A Line Sensor, often using Infrared (IR) technology, is a common sensor used in robotics to detect
and follow lines, usually in activities like a line-following robot. The line sensor works by emitting
infrared light and detecting whether the light reflects. This way, it can differentiate between light
and dark surfaces, such as a black line on a white background.
How the IR Sensor Works
The IR sensor consists of an IR emitter and receiver. The emitter sends out IR light, and when
the light hits a surface, it reflects. The sensor detects this reflected light.
If the surface is dark (like a black line), the light does not reflect well, and
the sensor doesn’t pick it up, signalling a “0.”
If the surface is light (like white), the IR light reflects, and the sensor reads
a “1.”

Follower Robot Using the Mechatron Kit
Overview
A robot can also act as a smart helper that can do things as instructed by humans. A Line Follower
Robot is a special robot that is made to follow a line or a path that we choose. The path can be a
black line/path on a white floor, or it can be invisible, like a magic line. The robot has special eyes
called Infrared Ray (IR) sensors in front, and these eyes help it to detect the line and follow.
The controller board consists of a programmable button. Press the button once, and it will glow a red
LED, indicating that the robot is ready to work as a “Line Follower Robot”.
