Applications of AI in Different Fields
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of machines to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence,
such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, pattern recognition, and decision-making. AI uses data, experience, and
patterns to make decisions or perform tasks without being directly programmed each time. Today, AI is not just in labs—
it’s in your phone, your home, your classroom, and even your doctor’s clinic. Let us take a closer look at how AI is making
life easier, smarter, and faster in different fields.

                 AI in Healthcare
AI is revolutionising healthcare delivery. It helps doctors diagnose diseases, read medical images like X-rays or MRIs, predict
patient risks, and even assist in surgeries. AI-powered systems can analyse large amounts of medical data much faster than
a human. For example, Qure.ai, an Indian startup, uses AI to read chest X-rays and detect diseases such as tuberculosis
or pneumonia in just minutes. This is especially useful in rural clinics with no radiologist. IBM Watson Health (now part of
Merative) has been used to analyse patient records and medical literature to support cancer treatment decisions.
Some benefits of AI in healthcare are as follows:
u Speeds up diagnosis and treatment
                 u Reduces human errors
u Can provide healthcare support in areas with few doctors
u Supports early detection, saving lives

                 AI in Education
In the classroom, AI is used to personalise learning, support teachers, and provide instant feedback to students. It
helps understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses and adjusts content accordingly. Khan Academy uses an
AI-powered application called Khanmigo to offer tailored learning paths based on the student’s pace and performance
in subjects like Math and Science. Duolingo, a popular language-learning app, uses AI to design daily lessons that adapt
to what the learner already knows and struggles with.
Some benefits of AI in education are as follows:

u Makes learning flexible and more engaging
u Supports students with different learning styles
u Helps teachers by analysing student progress and highlighting problem areas

                 AI in Agriculture

Farmers are using AI to grow better crops, save water, and predict weather. AI tools can identify plant diseases,
recommend fertilisers, and help plan the best time to harvest. For example, KrishiHub uses AI to advise Indian farmers
on crop prices and weather updates, and uses image recognition to detect diseases in crops. In the US, AI drones fly over
large farms and scan crops for health and growth. They help apply the right amount of water and fertiliser.

Basic Concepts of Artificial Intelligence 15
