                 Observe the  garden on the  previous  page  and  answer the  following

                 questions.

                   1.  Anu watered the rose and dahlia plants.
                         How many plants did she water?                               +               =

                   2.  Aditya watered the marigold and sunflower plants.

                        How many  plants  did  he water?                              +              =
                        plants

                   3.  Who watered more plants?

                        How many more?                        -              =             plants
                   4.  11 roses were blooming. But 4 fell down.

                        How many roses are left on the plants?                           -             =





              Addition

              Adding a 2-digit and a 1-digit number

              Example 1. Add 35 and 3.


              Solution. We can use a number strip to find the answer.

              Find 35 on the number strip. Move forward 3 places, you reach 38.

              Thus,  35 + 3 = 38.
              We can also use vertical addition to find the answer.
