Adding 2-digit And 1-digit numberS

Let us add 12 and 5.

12 is a 2-digit number and 5 is a 1-digit number.

To add numbers 12 and 5, we follow these steps.

Step 1. Write the numbers one Step 2. Add the tens.

+ 5

7 There is no tens digit in the second
number.
2 ones + 5 ones = 7 ones So, write 1 in the tens place.
Write 7 in the ones place.
Thus, 12 + 5 = 17.
