SubtrACting A number from itSelf
Alka has 3 apples. She eats all three apples. How many
apples are left?
Clearly, 0.
So, 3 – 3 = 0
Similarly, 8 – 8 = 0, 9 – 9 = 0 and so on.
When we subtract a number from itself, the answer is zero (0).
Exercise 4B
1. Subtract 0.
a. 6 – 0 = b. 9 – 0 = c. 7 – 0 =
d. 8 – 0 = e. 5 – 0 = f. 2 – 0 =
g. 12 – 0 = h. 16 – 0 = i. 19 – 0 =
2. Subtract 1.
a. 9 – 1 = b. 7 – 1 = c. 8 – 1 =
d. 6 – 1 = e. 5 – 1 = f. 3 – 1 =
g. 13 – 1 = h. 15 – 1 = i. 20 – 1 =
3. Subtract the number from itself.
a. 5 – 5 = b. 6 – 6 = c. 8 – 8 =
d. 1 – 1 = e. 9 – 9 = f. 17 – 17 =
g. 14 – 14 = h. 13 – 13 = i. 19 – 19 =
