2 tens and 4 ones make 24.
In the expanded form, we write: 24 = 2 tens + 4 ones
Now, 2 tens = 20 and 4 ones = 4 24 is the short form
So, 24 can also be written as 24 = 20 + 4 of 2 tens + 4 ones
Similarly,
a. 58 = 5 tens + 8 ones = 50 + 8 b. 35 = 3 tens + 5 ones = 30 + 5
58 is the short form. 35 is the short form.
Exercise 6C
1. Write these numbers in expanded form. one has been done for you.
a. 57 = 5 tens + 7 ones = 50 + 7
b. 42 = = +
c. 76 = = +
d. 85 = = +
e. 68 = = +
2. Write these numbers in short form. one has been done for you.
a. 6 tens and 2 ones = 62 b. 5 tens and 7 ones =
c. 7 tens and 0 ones = d. 4 tens and 9 ones =
e. 5 tens and 2 ones = f. 8 tens and 0 ones =
