This year, Prateek and his friends are celebrating Christmas. They are
eagerly waiting for Santa Claus. At midnight, Santa Claus arrives with
many gifts for the children.
Santa Claus wants to give the gifts equally among 4 children present
there. Help Santa to distribute the gifts equally by making equal groups.
Each child will get ________________ gift boxes.
DIVISION AS EQUAL SHARING
Division means equal sharing.
Suppose there are 8 oranges on a plate and there are
4 children. We give 1 orange to each child as shown below.
Now, 4 oranges are left on the plate.
Again, we give 1 more orange to each child.
Now, no oranges are left on the plate.
This means that all 8 oranges have been shared equally
by four children, and each child gets 2 oranges.
So, division is equal sharing.
We say that 8 divided by 4 is equal to 2.
