NUMBERS ON THE ABACUS

A calculating frame with beads of different colours is called an abacus. For

3-digit numbers, we need an abacus with three spikes showing Ones (O),
Tens (T) and Hundreds (H), respectively.

In the abacus shown here, there are 2 beads on the hundreds

spike, 3 beads on the tens spike and 4 beads on the ones
spike. So, it has 2 hundreds, 3 tens and 4 ones. This abacus
shows the number 234 read as two hundred thirty-four. H T O
