COMPARISON OF NUMBERS
Symbols of Comparison
We use the symbols =, > and < to compare numbers.
Equal to (=)
The symbol ‘=’ means ‘equal to’. When ‘=’ is used between
two numbers, it means the numbers on both sides have
the same value.
Examples: a. 18 = 18 b. 64 = 64
Less than (<)
The symbol ‘<’ shows ‘less than’. When ‘<’ is used between
two numbers, it means the number on the left side of the
symbol is less than the number on the right side of it.
Examples: a. 5 < 12 b. 17 < 34
Greater than (>)
The symbol ‘>’ means ‘greater than’. When ‘>’ is used between
two numbers, it means the number on the left side of the
symbol is greater than the number on the right side of it.
Examples: a. 16 > 8 b. 73 > 68
