            ORDINAL NUMBERS

                                                                                               21 st
Sometimes we use numbers to tell the position of things. Century #Life Skills and Values

The numbers such as first, second, third, ... which tell us the position of an

object in a collection, are called ordinal numbers.

We write ordinal numbers by adding

letters to the counting numbers. For Keep in Mind

1 we write 1st (first), for 2 we write 2nd The numbers which are used to

(second), and for 3 we write 3rd (third). say how many of something there
are, such as one (1), two (2), three
For the other numbers, we usually add (3), four (4), ... are called cardinal
                                                                               numbers.
‘th’, so we write 4th, 5th, 6th, and so on.

The first ten ordinal numbers are given below. Study this.

             First 1st Sixth 6th

             Second 2nd Seventh 7th Forth ( ) Fourth ( )
                                                                          Nineth ( ) Ninth ( )
             Third 3rd Eighth 8th
