Sometimes when we add, we need to regroup.

Example 1. Add 24 and 6.

Solution. Write the numbers according to the place value. Then add.

Step 1. First add the ones and regroup. Step 2. Then add the tens.

4 + 6 = 10 ones = 1 ten 0 ones 1 + 2 = 3 tens

Write 0 in the ones place and carry Write 3 in the tens place.
