            ADDITION OF BIggEr 2-DIgIT NuMBErS

            Addition with regrouping Tens

Sometimes when we add two numbers, we get a 3-digit number.

            Example 1. Add 60 and 50.

            Solution.

Step 1. Add the ones. Step 2. Add the tens and regroup.

                  H T O H T O

                                                                          1

                       6 0 6 0

              + 5 0 + 5 0

                           0 1 1 0

            0 + 0 = 0 ones 6 + 5 = 11 tens = 1 hundred + 1 ten

            So, 60 + 50 = 110.
