            Step 2.  Read the measure on the scale at the other end. The reading gives the length
                       of the segment. Here, the length of the line segment is 7 cm.

            We use a sharp pencil and a ruler to draw a line segment of a given length.

            example 2. Draw a line segment of length 5 cm.
            Solution.
            Step 1.  Mark a fine dot with a pencil on a sheet of paper. Name it point A.

            Step 2.  Place the scale along point A, and hold it firmly.

            Step 3.  Draw a line segment of the required length, that is 5 cm.
