example 3. Ravi travelled 17 km 352 m on Monday and 14 km 65 m on Tuesday. Find
the total distance travelled by Ravi in these two days.
Solution.
km m
Distance travelled on Monday = 17 352
Distance travelled on Tuesday = + 14 65
Total distance travelled = 31 417
Thus, Ravi travelled 31 km 417 m in these two days.
example 4. A tree was 21 m 75 cm high. It broke from the top at a height of 12 m 24 cm,
due to a storm. How much of the tree is still standing upright?
Solution.
m cm
Height of tree before breaking = 21 75
Hight of broken part = – 12 24
Height of upright tree = 9 51
Thus, 9 m 51 cm of the tree is still standing upright.
