example 2. Convert the following into milligrams.

Solution. a. 4 g

We know that 1 g = 1000 mg.
4 g = (4 × 1000) mg = 4000 mg
b. 25 g 250 mg = 25 g + 250 mg = (25 × 1000) mg + 250 mg

= 25000 mg + 250 mg = 25250 mg
example 3. Convert:

a. 8 kg into g b. 9 kg 648 g into g c. 4 g 30 mg into mg
Solution. a. 8 kg = (8 × 1000) g = 8000 g
b. 9 kg 648 g = 9 kg + 648 g = (9 × 1000) g + 648 g = 9000 g + 648 g = 9648 g
c. 4 g 30 mg = 4 g + 30 mg = (4 × 1000) mg + 30 mg
= 4000 mg + 30 mg = 4030 mg

To convert a smaller unit into a bigger unit, we divide. To convert milligrams into
grams, we divide the number of milligrams by 1000.
