example 3. The total weight of three friends, Panda, Koala and Penguin, is 58 kg. Penguin’s
weight is 27 kg 250 g and Koala’s weight is 8 kg 550 g. What is Panda’s weight?
Solution. Total weight of the three friends = 58 kg
Penguin’s weight = 27 kg 250 g
Koala’s weight = 8 kg 550 g
Penguin and Koala’s total weight = 27 kg 250 g + 8 kg 550 g
= 35 kg 800 g
So, Panda’s weight = 58 kg – 35 kg 800 g
= 22 kg 200 g
Thus, Panda’s weight is 22 kg 200 g.
example 4. A leopard and a wolf were weighed on a scale. The leopard weighed
60725 g. The wolf weighed 36 kg 375 g less than the leopard. Find the weight of the
wolf.
Solution. Leopard’s weight = 60725 g = 60000 g + 725 g
= (60000 ÷ 1000) kg + 725 g
= 60 kg 725 g
Difference in the weights of the leopard and the wolf = 36 kg 375 g
Wolf’s weight = 60 kg 725 g – 36 kg 375 g
= 24 kg 350 g
Thus, the wolf’s weight is 24 kg 350 g.
