example 4. Mr Vikash left for the office at 8:15 a.m. He took 50 minutes to reach the
office. When did he reach the office?
Solution. The total duration is 50 minutes. Let’s break this up
into parts and find the time as shown below:
50 minutes = 15 minutes + 30 minutes + 5 minutes
So, 8:15 a.m. + 15 minutes = 8:30 a.m.
8:30 a.m. + 30 minutes = 9:00 a.m.
9:00 a.m. + 5 minutes = 9:05 a.m.
Thus, Mr Vikash reached his office at 9:05 a.m.
example 5. A bus left Delhi at 4:25 p.m. and reached Agra 3 hours 35 minutes later.
At what time did the bus reach Agra?
Solution. 3 hours 35 minutes = 3 hours + 35 minutes
So, 4:25 p.m. + 3 hours = 7:25 p.m.
and 7:25 p.m. + 35 minutes = 8:00 p.m.
Thus, the bus reached Agra at 8:00 p.m.
