Addition and Subtraction of Money
We have learnt the addition and subtraction of numbers. The addition and subtraction of
money are the same as those of numbers. Let us see a few examples to understand this.
example 1. A man purchased a pair of shoes worth `256, a shirt worth `353,
trousers worth `734 and a tie worth `252. How much money did he spend in all?
Solution. 1 1
Money spent on shoes = `2 5 6
Money spent on shirt = `3 5 3
Money spent on trousers = `7 3 4
Money spent on tie = + `2 5 2
Total amount spent on all the items = `1 5 9 5
Hence, the man spent `1,595 in all.
