example 2. Rachit had `6,000. He spent `3,065 on buying a table and two chairs.
How much money was left with him?

            Solution. 10
                                                      5 9 9
            Total amount with Rachit = `6 0 0 0
            Money spent by him = – `3 0 6 5

            Money left with him = `2 9 3 5

Hence, the amount of `2,935 was left with Rachit.

            Multiplication and division of Money

Multiplication and division of money are similar to normal multiplication and division.
Let us see a few examples.

example 3. If one pen costs `35, find the cost of 8 pens.

            Solution.

The cost of one pen = `35
            Number of pens = 8 3 5

            So, the cost of 8 pens = `35 × 8 × 8 ` 35
                                                             2 8 0
                                        = `280

example 4. Golu bought 6 lollipops and gave a `50 note to the shopkeeper. If one
lollipop costs `5, how much money would the shopkeeper return?

            Solution.

Cost of one lollipop = `5

            So, cost of 6 lollipops = `5 × 6 = `30

            Golu gave a `50 note. The shopkeeper would return = `50 – `30 = `20.

example 5. One notebook costs `18. How many notebooks can you
            buy with `612?

            Solution. 3 4

            The cost of one notebook = `18 18 6 1 2

            Total amount = `612 –5 4
Number of notebooks that can be bought with the given amount = 7 2
            612 ÷ 18 = 34 –7 2

Thus, 34 notebooks can be bought with `612. 0
