Similar to the estimated sum, we can also find the estimated difference. We round off
the numbers to estimate their difference.
Example. Find the estimated difference:
a. 75 – 28 to the nearest 10 b. 342 – 168 to the nearest 100
Solution. a. T O T O b. H T O H T O
7 5 rounded 8 0 3 4 2 rounded 3 0 0
– 2 8 rounded – 3 0 – 1 6 8 rounded – 2 0 0
4 7 5 0 1 7 4 1 0 0

e. 2634 – 1862 f. 8652 – 4327 g. 4253 – 3243 h. 8888 – 2222
2. Estimate each difference by rounding numbers to the nearest 100. Also find the
actual difference.
a. 436 – 258 b. 736 – 192 c. 572 – 308 d. 733 – 264
